Senior Project Engineer

Job Description

Senior Project Engineer

Location: Milton Keynes, with travel across Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Warwickshire
Salary: Up to £92,434
Working pattern: Hybrid - typically 2 days WFH and 3 days across site/project offices

The Opportunity

As a Senior Project Engineer, you'll provide route-wide engineering oversight across an 82km section of a major UK rail infrastructure programme, operating between Great Missenden and Southam.

Rather than managing one individual package, you'll take a broader view across the route, overseeing complex engineering issues and ensuring technical, contractual and assurance requirements are effectively managed. You'll work across structures, highways, earthworks and other engineering disciplines, collaborating with construction, engineering and commercial teams.

You'll take ownership of more complex issues escalated by Project Engineers, working directly with contractors, subcontractors and senior stakeholders to reach practical solutions. This will include challenging proposed solutions, managing technical change and having difficult conversations when engineering or contractual requirements are not being met.

You'll also provide technical guidance and mentorship to Project Engineers and developing members of the team.

You'll ideally bring experience across structures, highways and/or earthworks, although broader multidisciplinary engineering experience is particularly valuable. You'll understand technical assurance, engineering change and construction contracts and be comfortable challenging contractors and senior stakeholders.

Strong commercial awareness is important, and experience working closely with commercial teams or from a commercially focused background would be particularly relevant.
Your main office will be Milton Keynes, with regular travel to contractor offices and construction sites between Great Missenden and Southam. The working pattern is flexible, typically involving 2 days working from home and 3 days across project offices/sites, including at least one site day.
